From Regulator to Counsel
Dan Matthews is a franchise attorney based in Bonney Lake, Washington, serving clients across the Lake Tapps area and beyond. Before founding Matthews Franchise Law, Dan served as a Franchise Examining Attorney and Associate General Counsel with the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions (DFI).
In that role, he reviewed hundreds of franchise offerings — helping protect investors while learning how registration, disclosure, and compliance work from the regulator’s side of the desk. That experience shapes how he advises clients today: practical, clear, and grounded in how examiners actually read an FDD.
Private Practice Franchise Attorney
Dan now practices through Matthews Franchise Law and serves of counsel with Warshawsky Law Group in Scottsdale, AZ. He helps franchisors structure programs and keep disclosures current, and helps franchisees understand what they are signing before they invest.
Clients work with him because he translates dense franchise documents into plain decisions — without losing the legal precision the work requires.
Licenses & Credentials
Dan is licensed to practice law in Washington State (WSBA No. 44024) and holds the CFA® Charter. He has been named a Franchise Times Legal Eagle each year since 2020.
